Who We Are

Welcome! This is Ekim & Katrina. We are two psychology students from the University of Southern California and the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign. We are primarily interested in feminist issues in psychology, and the intersection of psychology and other disciplines such as philosophy, economics, and policy. By extension, we are also invested in understanding the contextual factors that underlie global and regional socioeconomic inequalities.

We are both Third Culture Kids, and are deeply concerned with the growing xenophobia globally. While we are students and may constantly develop our thinking, we believe that peers like us should have a voice in science and political affairs, both of which will increasingly impact our future. Therefore, we are determined to assert our voice in matters that ultimately shape the society that our generation will inherit. We believe this is especially important for women and other minorities, whose voices have historically been and continue to be silenced. We are eager to learn from those before us and our peers as much as we are eager to uplift those around us.

Our Purpose

Share

We share our opinions and critique as well as interesting student projects. As we connect students through their projects, we hope to create a student-led community that provides a creative outlet for us and our peers who have been conducting meaningful work, but whose work may not see the light of the day at this stage in their lives.

Learn

While it is rewarding to receive and feature student submissions, we are transparent about the fact that this is a student-led initiative. Our content is our own, and we do our best to feature research-based content. It is important to note that our content is an interpretation of what we read and learn, not the objective truth. That said, as editors, we are thrilled to be learning through YourDaily2Cents as we sift through our sources and peer submissions.

Support

As our initiative grows, we hope to eventually create a positive impact by supporting our peers, especially women and minorities. We may transition to a non-profit, donation-based initiative that funds our aspiring peers in their creative and meaningful career quests.

About: About

What We Do

Our primary emphasis is to feature content that explores psychology and its relation to other disciplines. However, as we also seek to feature original student projects led by our peers, we are not limited to just psychology-related content, and may feature what we find relevant to our goals.

However, overall, these are the main themes we accept submissions from:

  • psychology

  • interpersonal relationship

  • feminism/gender issues

  • creative writing

  • philosophy

  • economics

  • public policy

  • imperialism

Our Sources

We primarily source from peer-reviewed journals, news sources that we deem credible, interviews with relevant researchers, and so on. You will find a selected bibliography or citation page at the end of each post, unless the format of a featured project requires no citation, such as photography or short story submissions.
